Eventually, Ashley stopped by to discuss how I was doing so far, what my project was, etc. Jim, her and I all went into one of the lesson rooms so that we weren't around so much noise. We talked a lot about the idea of community in music; how music creates a community by bringing people together. And Jim came up the phrase "Music is community" because it reflects the purpose of Katzin. We discussed the local dollar idea and how it would perfectly portray the community of Katzin, but also how contributing to your local businesses helps the community thrive. I thought that I could make a poster of a tree that would represent the whole community. I thought it was important to point out that the community doesn't just consist of Durango, but that it includes places in a very broad expansion as well. Like schools and businesses in surrounding cities and places outside of Colorado. Ashley also suggested that I call and meet with the director of Local First and just gain some insights about buying local and promoting all local stores.
I figure that I can make my poster using a program like Gimp, I just have to learn how to use it first. And for the power lunch, I'll have to call Animas and schedule a good time to have it.
