Mi Frida: Charlie Chaplin
The process that I went through for this project focused on the three paragraphs that I wrote in Espanol which just described what my visual piece looked like and why I chose this person. Since there was a visual included in this project, I wanted to draw a person who lived to open the eyes of society. Charlie Chaplin did just that in his incredible films, and even though they were labeled as comedies, he was able to incorporate meaningful and thought provoking ideas into his audiences. I drew him in the way Frida Kahlo painted her famous Two Fridas to represent what most of the world saw him to look like, and his real appearance. To the left of the drawing is Chaplin's silly character side, the comedy. And to the right, his natural, less famous face. There is no background in the drawing because I think the two Charlies should be the only focus, nothing to draw the eye away from what I want them to see. Frida Kahlo painted alot of self portraits with much symbolism for how she felt about love and her pain and her husband. It was her way of expressing her pain to the world because she couldn't do that with her husband since he was the basis for it. I think she was a very strong person for painting her emotions and allowing the rest of the world to see them. I like my visual piece enough, but I must critique it harshly because I am a perfectionist and the other Charlie isn't in the drawing yet. He will be, eventually though. I didn't end up with the visual piece that I thought I would initially have when I drew my outline. I first wanted to draw Audrey Hepburn, which I'm thinking now would have been the better choice. If I were to start all over again, I definitely wouldn't have chosen to draw it in charcoal, just because it's much much more difficult to draw a well done picture in charcoal. I would probably have painted it or something. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Uw0SKSLsYpVCNPjiW0rqfBhbDs9K_AnTVd1MpEyUFHA/edit |
